1. Testimony of a Mockingbird

    image

Some time ago, Texas Poet Laureate Emeritus Rosemary Catacalos sent us a recording that writer/columnist Cary Clack had made in his backyard, suggesting we use it as a creative springboard. Cary had captured the performance of a mockingbird deep in the throes of song, an avian Coltrane riffing up and down the scale with a passionate profusion of licks and the dynamic rhythms of a Southern preacher. Joël was inspired to collaborate, and the result is “Testimony of a Mockingbird,” a 15-minute musical conversation where man and bird trade phrases, philosophize, sing praises and sermonize. (The melodic theme you hear is from Joël’s composition “Dreaming Truth.”)

(Friday, August 4th, from midnight to midnight, Pacific Time, 2 am-2 am Central Standard Time, we’ll join Bandcamp in donating proceeds from all our music sales to the Transgender Law Center. Proceeds from “Someone’s Child” will still go to the Elf Louise Christmas Project, and proceeds from “Walk in My Shoes” will still go to Cure SMA.)
